So after finishing up the series, I wondered:
Should I feel guilty for enjoying it when Cersei blew the High Sparrow sky high?
I don’t know.
Some Christian blogger argued that we have it all wrong. We like the bad guys in the show and don’t like the good guys.
I thought that was a silly take because, if anything, Game of Thrones is about the grey areas (Grey Worm?) and doesn’t deal in absolutes.
Only the most childish of cartoons and comics do that. Adult fiction is about portraying life as it is. And because nobody is perfect, this seems more genuine than many whitewashed, Christian-approved media productions.
True, Cersei is quite evil. But at least she knows it. The High Sparrow and his violent crew reminded me of those religious phonies – we’ve all met them – who prance around pretending to be holier-than-thou when really they are just total creeps.
For the record, I didn’t enjoy it when Cersei insinuated that she planned to torment, possibly torture, the High Sparrow’s angry stooge, Septa Unella. And I didn’t like seeing Queen Margaery get trapped, the only one recognizing the imminent danger.
As I say, Cersei is evil.
But I did enjoy seeing the High Sparrow get his due. For me, religious phonies are the most odious type of all.
I’ve been having a ball playing around with all sorts of new software. I recently switched my old “frankenstein” computer (the one I made on Halloween out of two dead computers) to Xubuntu 16.04, which is a Linux operating system.
It’s been a great adventure. Like learning how to do computers all over again. Luckily there are friendly forums, which always helps!
There’s a lot of interesting free software that works well with Linux. One is Slimjet browser, which I’m using now (I haven’t tested it on Windows yet). Another is the GIMP, a photo editor that also works with Windows.
Anyhow… here’s a little something created on the GIMP… thinking of that old madman David Bowie while doing this. Well, I guess he’s an eternally young madman now.
I think the lyric “something in the sky” is in one of his songs from the LP Outside. But I’d have to check on that.
Sorry to anyone who has liked my stuff here or at Earthpages. I WILL get back to see what you have been up to. Just that learning Linux and related software has been pretty time-consuming. As I say, like learning computers all over again. 🙂
…killing time in a fast food joint yesterday, waiting to pick someone up. This was taken with an iPad, using the Photo Booth App. I actually took three of the same shot, each with slightly different background detail. So I might make an animation for added effect!
