The Laughing Gnome

Here’s a funny pic I found the other night while going through an old photo album with an attractive young couple on the cover, walking along the beach in the sunset with the album heading “Together Always.”

This was taken with a B&W Polaroid camera that I won in a Howdy Root Beer contest. I was up at the cottage one summer and got my Mom to buy consecutive six-packs of Howdy Root Beer while I saved the plastic liners under the bottle caps. I guess I got three of a kind or something. Can’t remember for sure. But I do remember it being an American company and feeling somewhat amazed that I actually received the prize after successfully answering that “skill-testing question.”

As for the photo itself, when we were kids my Mom bought us these unisex nighties from a trendy Toronto shop called Marimekko (actually a Finnish chain). It was the 70s and in many ways, we were freer back then than we are now.

I don’t know why I’ve got that gnomish grin on. I almost look like the boy who lived across the street. Perhaps even then I was channeling spirits… living and dead!

All this memory lane stuff reminds me of another story I could tell about my trusty old Realistic CB radio. But I won’t go there today. Must think about that one before going public with it!

“I ought to report you to the Gnome Office.”
“Gnome Office? Ahahahah!”

Ha, ha, ha, hee, hee, hee
I’m a laughing gnome and you can’t catch me
