Yesteryear

I used to love going down to St. Michael’s Cathedral on Sunday nights. I would leave a bit late to arrive after the downtown parking was free but still in time for the Eucharist. Lovers and Other Strangers used to play on the radio, a nice show with music and readings from Don Jackson. It all fell into a perfect routine.

But things change. The church was renovated and necessarily closed for a long time. When it reopened it looked more like a McDonald’s than a venerable old Cathedral.

This photo is from the old days, the pre-reno days. Instead of a pieta near the church entrance, we now have a large video monitor with info and live streams.

Something gained, something lost.
