Dr. Robert E. Carter talks about self-cultivation

3D Dialogue: Self-Cultivation

Dr. Carter was one of the best professors I ever had. He turned me and many others on to thinking about philosophy not just as a dry, abstract discipline but as a real, living phenomenon.

  1. Between 1982 and 1987 Bob changed me and as a result today I am better person -smarter, happier, more loving, more confident, more generous, wider, more alive. He showed a lot of love and care in his teaching.

  2. Right Mike, he’s certainly one of those professors who stand out from the crowd. And I believe he got there through merit and integrity, which in the long run makes all the difference.

  4. Thank you for those kind words. Yes, I am back from Japan and living in Peterborough. My 12th book on the Kyoto School is in press. I am a trumpeter in 2 big bands in the area, and am a grandfather. Do let me know what you are doing with your life. Bob Carter

  5. Hi Dr. Carter, nice to hear from you. I’m living in Toronto and working hard to get my sites earthpages.org and earthpages.ca off the ground. If by chance you ever feel like submitting any popular focus articles, please don’t hesitate. I’m sure you have much wisdom to offer. Mike

  6. Professor Carter was certainly one of Trent’s most excellent professors, and particularly in the area of Oriental Philosophy – – and has clearly continued to cultivate his own learning, from which we are still learning! Dimitrios Otis
