‘The Varieties of Relgious Experience’ goes online

james.jpgWilliam James’ well-known classic is about to become even more well-known. It’s now online, thanks to some French psychoanalysts. James looked at different kinds of religious experience from a Protestant, scholarly point of view many years ago. His brother was the famous American writer, Henry James. We owe them both a debt of gratitude. But for me, William meant more.

Perhaps the most striking thing the reader of ‘The Varieties’ will note is the similarity between the past and the present. What we now call ‘The New Age’ existed in slightly different forms, with slightly different names, in the earlier part of the 20th century. But you don’t have to take my word for it.
